Nashville, TN: Lucy's Kitchen
In 2015, I started an every Monday night trip to Whole Foods to buy healthy staples for the week: protein shakes, almond milk, eggs, oatmeal, water, etc. While I am there, I also grab dinner from the hot bar. If you are familiar with the Whole Foods layout, you know the bakery is usually ver close to the Hot Bar, so I find myself perusing through to see if I can find anything interesting. One day, my eyes locked in on this section of small cheesecakes with names such as Strawberry Dream, Very Vanilla, and Spicy Mexican Chocolate. So, I stopped to take a closer look and discovered one called Luscious Lime.
Key Lime Cheesecake?? Oh, I had to take a closer look.
Is that a sour cream layer I see??? I really have to try it now!
My obsession with Key Lime started in college when I discovered Edward's Key Lime pie at the grocery store. So, I am always in search of a good Key Lime pie dessert. I am also a cheesecake snob. This is all due to my Aunt Dot's Cheesecake recipe that calls for a sour cream topping, which adds a little something special and is really rare these days.
It turns out that these mini cheesecakes are made by a local Nashville bakery called Lucy's Kitchen. After the first bite, I was hooked! It is a traditional cheesecake with the key lime flavor baked in, with a graham cracker crust and sour cream topping. The flavor and texture is amazing! The lime was not fake or overbearing - it was just right. The filling is light and fluffy, and of course, the sour cream topping provides a flavor and texture balance.
I have lost count of how many of these I have eaten. For MONTHS, I would get one every Monday night! And sometimes they are sold out and it ruins my night!
So, I became curious and wanted to know where Lucy's Kitchen was located so that I could try other treats. They don't operate out of a store front but sell their goodies in Whole Foods, some select restaurants/coffee shops, and at the Franklin Farmer's Market on Saturdays. I must say...this made me sad. I am never in Nashville on the weekends and I would love to one day taste some other desserts.
FYI - the Whole Foods in Green Hills sells larger slices than the Whole Foods in Franklin :)
Now, I am off to my second workout of the day to work of SOME of this deliciousness!
